RESEARCH AND PROGRAM EVALUATION

·         Production of educational video, “Mapuches: People of the Land” sponsored by CoDevelopment Canada (1993).

·         Evaluated the Agricultural Development Research Corporation (ARDCORP) Farm Management Training Program, under the sponsorship of the Department of Agricultural Economics, UBC. Conducted personal interviews with over fifty trainees across British Columbia and produced an extensive written report (1992).

·         Responsible for assessing the educational needs of farmers in British Columbia, under the sponsorship of the Department of Agricultural Economics, UBC. Designed research instruments and wrote project report (1992).

·         Worked on the BC Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Extension Program Evaluation, under the sponsorship of the Department of Adult Education, UBC (1991).

INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

·         Economic and Educational Advisor to the Chilean Agricultural Insurance Committee (2001 and 2002). Worked in Chile, for the Inter-American Institute for Co-operation in Agriculture (IICA), on the implementation of the Chilean Agricultural Insurance Program. This project was conducted under the auspices of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Alberta Financial Services Corporation Agreement. Responsible for the organization and supervision of the extension and educational activities of the Program.

·         Economic and Educational Advisor to the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Alberta Financial Services Corporation (1998 -2000). Worked on the design and implementation plan for the establishment of an Agricultural Insurance Program in Chile.  This project was funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and the Government of Chile.

·         Economic and Educational Advisor to the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture and to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (1997 and 1998). Worked on the design of a Safety Net Program for Chilean Agricultural Producers. This project was funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and the Government of Chile.

·         Prepared an extensive report for the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture (1995) on Agricultural Support Programs in Canada and the United States. This project was funded by the Inter-American Institute for Co-operation in Agriculture (IICA).


MANAGEMENT AND INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT


·         CEO responsible for the operation of three companies owned by Western Indian Agricultural Producers Association (WIAPA) in British Columbia: Western Indian Agricultural Corporation, Western Indian Lending Association and Western Indian Management Team.  These companies provided extension services, technical assistance, agricultural loans and training to First Nations farmers in British Columbia. Supervised a staff of twenty-one professional, technical and administrative personnel (1984 to 1989).

·         Worked on the establishment of the First Nations Agricultural Lending Association in British Columbia. This company is fully owned and controlled by First Nations farmers. The company had an initial capital loan fund of five million dollars (1988 to 1989).

·         Participated as international development advisor in the planning sessions that took place in Bogotá, Colombia, leading to the development of a Training Program for Latin‑American First Nations community leaders, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Federated Indian College (Canada), the Latin American Indian Council, and the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC), in November 1985.

·         Regional Director for INDAP (National Institute for Agricultural Development), Chile. Responsible for the administration of an agricultural credit and extension program that provided services to a population of 25,000 small farmers and peasants, the majority of them living on Mapuche Reserves. Supervised a staff of 200 professional agrologists, veterinary doctors, educators, sociologists, technicians and administrative personnel (1970 to 1972).

EDUARDO S. SCHWARTZ

Dr. Schwartz is the California Professor of Real Estate and Professor of Finance, Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has an Engineering degree from the University of Chile and a Masters and Ph.D. in Finance from the University of British Columbia.  He has been in the faculty at the University of British Columbia and visiting at the London Business School, the University of California at Berkeley and the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.  His wide-ranging research has focused on different dimensions in asset and securities pricing.  Topics in recent years include interest rate models, asset allocation issues, evaluating natural resource investments, pricing Internet companies, the stochastic behavior of commodity prices and valuing patent-protected R&D projects.  His collected works include close to one hundred articles in finance and economic journals, two monographs, an edited book, and a large number of monograph chapters, conference proceedings, and special reports.  He is the winner of a number of awards for both teaching excellence and for the quality of his published work.  He has been associate editor for around twenty journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.  He is past president of the Western Finance Association and the American Finance Association.  He is a Fellow of the American Finance Association and the Financial Management Association International. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Alicante in Spain and by the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, and a Catedra de Excelencia by the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. He has also been a consultant to governmental agencies, banks, investment banks and industrial corporations.

 Graduado por la Universidad de Chile (1958). Profesor de la UACh (1959-1973) y de la Universidad de Costa Rica (1974 hasta la fecha).
Cofundador, en 1965, de Estudios Filológicos, publicación semestral de la Universidad Austral de Chile. Cofundador, en 1978, y actual director de Escena: revista de las artes, publicación semestral de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR). Cofundador, en 1987, y actual miembro honorífico del Consejo Científico del Centro de Investigación en Identidad y Cultura Latinoamericanas (CIICLA) de la UCR.

Es diplomado en “Dirección y gestión de empresas agrarias” del INEA, Valladolid y Técnico Agrícola de la escuela Superior de Agricultura de San Felipe Chile.
           
Fundador del Centro de Artes y Letras “San Telmo”, de la revista de arte y cultura “Arlequín” (Director de la misma) en Argentina.

La Embajada de Chile en Argentina le confirió durante la Feria del Libro de 1999, junto a otros, la Medalla “Al mérito cultural”.

Es autor de siete libros:

Tres dedicado a la operación de computadores.
Uno orientado a la innovación educativa con las Nuevas tecnologías “Aprender haciendo”.
Un Ensayo: "Reflexiones de un arlequín en busca de rumbo con todo sus rombos” 
Una novela “El dolor de ya no ser”
Uno de poesías: “Caminemos, tal vez nos veremos después....”

Su séptimo libro fruto de su experiencia como profesor de computación en Argentina y el Master en España, está dedicado al uso de la Internet como herramienta didáctica y a la Innovación educativa. Se llama "Aprender Haciendo" y se presentó en la 25 Feria Internacional del Libro en Santiago de Chile, el 5 de noviembre de 2005.

Actualmente tres de sus libros: “El dolor de ya no ser”; “Caminemos, tal vez nos veremos después” y “ Aprender haciendo”, se encuentran en las principales librerías digitales del mundo como Amazon.com: amabook.es  y otras editados por la editorial portuguesa Emooby.

Es colaborador y profesor de Alfabetización informática en el  Centro de Hispanohablantes de Amsterdam. y del Centro Wereld Huis.

Asesor en Informática para la educación del Colegio Nido de Águilas, Moreno, Argentina.
